Happy Birthday to…….

…….Glen

Hello lovely reader.

As I am sure you noticed I didn’t write anything last week, that is because we had some more time off work last week (our last bit of planned time off until September now!).

Last Tuesday we went to see Ed Byrne, one of my favourite comedians (Glens quite fond of him too).  Glen bought us the tickets for my birthday earlier on this year, I first saw Ed back in 2009 and haven’t missed a tour since.  You may know him from ‘Mock the Week’, his travels with Dara O’Briain or even from reading the ‘Great Outdoors Magazine (I know right!).  For those of you that don’t know him I erg you to find a DVD or look him up on Youtube, for those of you that do know of his work but haven’t seen him live I you have to buy tickets when he is next on tour and in your area.  We booked the next day off, but if we had to work the next day we wouldn’t have let that stop us.

So we had Wednesday off to recover and it was Glens birthday on Friday (we like to have our birthdays off) it seemed silly to only go in for one day.  On Thursday we got the train into Southampton to have a mooch around, the weather was lovely and we had a good day out.

For Glens birthday on Friday I made him a cake, I do this every year and usually I decorate it (for his 30th he had a finding Nemo cake, then there was an avengers care and a Guardians of the Galaxy cake), this year I made him a simple cherry cake.  It is one of his favourites but with all our days out I didn’t really have time to decorate a cake.  So I spent an hour on the morning of his birthday messing around with glue and paper to make him a card.

I thought a Captain America shield card would be pretty easy but just doing the shield bit was a bit boring.  So with a special little cutter I cut out a load of blue and red stars.  I couldn’t find the pritt stick so I had to use modpodge (the only glue I could find) and a child’s paintbrush, I got a lot of glue on my hands but I got the card made.  I don’t have a protractor to so the circles with so I found some round things to draw around that were about the right sizes, hence the line up of mugs and glasses.   I did the stars before finding anything round and wasn’t sore how big the shield was going to be so I decided that the best thing to do was fill the card with stars and just stick the shield on top, so that the pattern would look right at the end (although you can see that as I went I got more confident about where the stars were going and the pattern got a bit better).  At the time the circles looked like they were in the right place but when I look at it now I can see that it’s a bit skewwhiff.  Glen seemed to like it though and that’s all that matters.

It was my mums birthday at the end of April and she can be a pain to buy for, so I made her a voucher for me to take her to a garden centre and by her some plants.  That way she got a day out and a gift.  She cashed this in on Saturday so we had a lovely day out in the sunshine and Glen had a fiend and his dad round to watch the Southampton football game (they didn’t win but the boys still had a good time).  The rest of the long weekend we spent in the garden, as did much of the country, doing stuff in the garden.  I still have lots of things to plant up from Saturday and lots of on going garden stuff.  So next week I should have lots of lovely garden pics for you!

Thank you for reading.  I hope you are well x
